Hyaluronic Acid

Glycosaminoglycan

Also known as: Hyaluronan, HA, Sodium hyaluronate

Description

Hyaluronic acid is a naturally occurring glycosaminoglycan found abundantly in the dermis and epidermis. It is a powerful humectant capable of binding up to 1000 times its weight in water.

Mechanism of Action

Functions as a humectant, drawing water from the dermis and environment into the epidermis. Low molecular weight HA penetrates the stratum corneum and promotes hydration from within. High molecular weight HA forms a moisture-retaining film on the skin surface.
